January 23, 2010 taken from in front of our house in Palm Desert
View to the west - San Jacinto mountain...
to the north towards Joshua Tree...
and the south - the Santa Rosa mountains
We drove through rain and snow on the 22nd of January to a very wet and rainy Palm Desert. That area had received almost 4 inches of rain in five days!!! Our long drive was rewarded with a Saturday and Sunday of sun and snow capped mountains to the north, west and south. It was amazing how low the snow level was and just how much snow must have fallen for it to be so blindingly white. Truly stunning! The drive home through the mountains on the Pines to Palms was gorgeous with tons of Coachella valley residents parked on the sides of the road playing in the snow - a sight we've never seen!

We drove to Quartzsite on January 22nd through rain, hail, sleet & snow (215 to the 60 to the 10) and were so surprised to see the snow level at 2500'. Thankfully our weekend camping weather was GORGEOUS and clear w/ no wind! Then today (1/30) we went out to the Desert Rats Hamfest in Palm Springs (we took Palms to Pines both ways - sure enjoyed seeing the remnants of snowmen)...what a wonderful drive!
